I was getting ready to spend this coming weekend in NYC, my home away from home. I lived there for five years during college and miss it every day. So I relish the days or weekends that I get up there and get to walk around and see all the familiar and new sites (mostly stores!). But with 100% chance of ‘ice pellets’ both here in Philly and up in New York on Friday when we would be traveling, we’ve decided to reschedule for another weekend.
So instead I reminisce about some of my favorites places…
food (most important)
Burritoville (I have yet to have a burrito as good as theirs)
Buttercup Bake Shop (former co-owner of Magnolia Bakery on Bleeker)
BBQ (definitely not for the ambience, but for the food)
La Paella (great tapas and sangria)
paper and supplies (second most important!)
kate’s paperie (of course!)
NY Central Art Supply (they have Jade Adhesive for paper that I have a hard time finding anywhere else!)
Kiehl’s (although there’s now a store on Walnut Street and I can get it at Saks!, but the original store is so much more interesting)

And now that all my friends (who work in the not-so-great-paying architecture field) have moved to the outskirts of the boroughs or to New Jersey, we try to stay at the Club Quarters which during the week is a business person hotel and offers great weekend rates. Make reservations way in advance!
