life in the great outdoors

When I look at the latest gardening and outdoor living catalogs I immediately think about the great times that we’ve spent out on our deck, just me and the boy and also with friends and family.  Last year I recall that we had a very hot and humid summer and didn’t actually get to sit outside all that much.  This year, I plan to make more of an effort to at least have breakfast outside in the mornings before it gets too hot.

I got the new Crate & Barrel catalog today and am feeling really inspired by the textures and colors I saw.

Even if you don’t have a deck or terrace, bring some of the outdoors inside.  Beautiful planters made for the outdoors look just as great indoors.  And I think everyone should have an herb garden (one of my own goals this season) and as long as you have a window you can.  I love this Herb Set with Metal Pots from Crate & Barrel (left).  I think it would make a great center piece on the kitchen table.  If you think you have a black thumb, try getting one house plant first, maybe a peace lily.  Peace lilies also remove some toxins from the air like orchids do.  They are easy to take care of.

Our garden is just starting to wake up and come alive again.  I am looking forward to longer days and more time relaxing with friends and family both inside and out.
